The Hipolit House. Bourgeois house
| Interiors exhibition was made on two levels in Hipolit House. We can see a study of rich townsman from 17th century, which decoration is stucca of B. Fontana. Next to it, there is a small study with preserved cabinet. We move to the bedroom decorated with rococo pastel paintings and furniture decorated with flowers. Onwards we move lo living room, filled with furniture from different eras, the way it was set in the past. Walls were filled with paintings, townsmen were eager to collect them. The biggest is collectioner’s room. At Galician Autonomy era, many citizens of Kraków, settling immigrants, gathered beautiful collections of present and past art. The collections filled apartments, making them museums, like collectioner's room. On the second floor there is an apartment from 19th century. Grandmother's room is old-fashioned but homelike, lumbered up with trinkets. Daughter's room is modest, unassumingly with simple utensils, not overdecorated. The main part of living is diningroom, table in the center, hanging oil lamp gives warm light. Big carved sideboard is set with various vessels, next on the table stands shining samovar. The saloon states about the landlord, we can distinguish the piano and big couch. It is decorated with paintings and kilims, many trinkets and branchy palm. At the end we can visit the bedroom with many nuptial beds. Two pigeons from gilded painting frame remind us durability of marriage. The exhibition “Bourgeois' house” shows characteristics of different interiors over centuries. We can be sure that this is the way, former rich citizens of Krakow lived. Furniture, paintings, fabrics, various objects and the decoration make the climate of past times and habits. |
