Exhibition of the Kraków Nativity Scenes in Turin

The Kraków Nativity Scenes for many years have been a success as well in Poland as abroad. It can be said that they are a symbol of Kraków which makes that our city is recognizable. Mainly because of the fact that they present Kraków’s architecture in a fairylike and extraordinary way

This year Kraków Nativity Scenes will be presented in Turin, in the museum - Museo Nazionale della Montagna. For the first time we are going to present our cribs in a new, different from previous patterns form. Beside the cribs’ presentation the exhibition will show our Christmas traditions and customs. Because of the fact that museum in Turin focuses on the mountains subject-matter, the show was extended with the features of the traditions from Podhale that is why together with the cribs from Kraków we are going to present people’s cribs from the collection of Jacek Łodziński. Unusual atmosphere is emphasized by brought from Poland Christmas trees decorated with made by hands using colourful tissue papers and beads, playthings and chains. Ceremonial opening of the exhibition took place on 13th of November 2008. Invited quests had a good time with folk music of the highlander’s band “Zbójnicy” from Szczyrk. After the opening was less official part with delicacies of Polish kitchen. Salty and sweet snacks prepared by the restaurant “Cherubino”, captivated hearts and palates of Italians. A day before, in the centre of the city, in the Subalpine Gallery which is a sheltered passage, we placed a Crib made by famous Kraków’s cribs maker - Paweł Nawała. Huge, 3 meters high construction merges architecture feature of both cities, and its sunlit green roofs attract attention of passers-by.
