The Kraków Nativity Scenes in Tbilisi

     For many years Kraków’s Christmas Cribs have been presented on many exhibition in many countries. Currently we are presenting our cribs in Tbilisi on the exhibition titled “Tradition of Christmas in Poland”. Our cribs are part of the huge exhibition including the sculptures and national costumes from various regions of Poland. The exhibition is arranged by Institute of Adam Mickiewicz in Warsaw in cooperation with Polish embassy in Tbilisi. The exhibition is located in very important for Tbilisi citizens place. It is Carvasla Gallery in the National Museum of Georgia. This is one of the most important places, where the most prestigious cultural events are arranged. The building of the museum from 19th century is located in the oldest part of the city. Inside the museum, on two levels, there are galleries with entries to huge, glazed rooms. In one of these room, polish exhibition is being shown. Vast room contains hundreds of exhibits in interestingly arranged spaces. Big sized printings are a background for particular parts of the exhibition. Christmas atmosphere was made by placing natural Christmas trees, decorated with lamps, glass balls and traditional toys made from straw and paper. In the middle of the room there are Kraków’s Christmas cribs on the background of a winter landscape. In the nearby of the 3 the biggest cribs we put mannequins in national costumes and rugs presenting Christmas subject-matter.

    Kraków’s Christmas Cribs delighted Georgians with unknown for them architecture. All of them attracted and stopped for a longer time moving theatre of Holly Family accompany by legendaries, historical and symbolic figures.
Children were fascinated with the figure of Lajkonik and the Dragon. They even tried to pull out the dragon from the cave or give him a dinosaur for company.

     On the opening of the exhibition came many guests including diplomats, clergymen and eminent citizen of Tbilisi, the ambassador Jacek Multanowski and numerous representatives of Polish people in Georgia. On the opening there were many children, who were given presents by Santa Claus. (Santa Claus’s holiday is on 19th of December in Georgia).
On the exhibition you can listen to Christmas carols and live music performed by Jacek Hałas and family band. Kraków’s Christmas Cribs as usual attracted with its colours and charm. The ceremonial opening with approximately 300 guests was broadcasted by numerous media. On the exhibition’s opening we displayed a movie about the Cribs competition.
