The Kraków Nativity Scenes amongst olive groves and oranges - exhibition in Giffoni Valle Piana, Italy
| The Kraków Nativity Scenes amongst olive groves and oranges – exhibition in Giffoni Valle Piana, Italy. On 8th of December 2005in the town located in the centre of bucolic scenery of Campania - Giffoni Valle Piana, in the nearby of Salerno, a ceremonial opening of the international Cribs’ exhibition took place. Ugo Carpinelli city Mayor, His Eminence Emyri Kabongo Kanundowa, head of the Centre of Pilgrimage Pantheon Roma - Antonio Tedesco, the Polish ambassador in Vatican - Hanna Suchocka, director of the Historical Museum of the City of Kraków - Michał Niezabitowski and German sculptor - Berta Kals, being on this extraordinary ceremonial opening added splendour to this event. The cribs made by artists from Italy, Germany and Poland were presented in the post- Franciscan convent, renovated 10 year ago and adapted for the local centre of culture. Our country presented cribs made by sculptors from Zakopane, and Kraków cribs coming from the collections of our museum. We have chosen 30 symmetrical structures to show to the public all competitions’ categories and the most interesting achievements and the most characteristic features of style of Kraków’s artists. On the exhibition there were multiply prized works of Stanisław Paczyński, Maciej Moszew, Marian Dłużniewski, Roman Sochacki, Witold Głuch and Mieczysław Marchwian. Of course we couldn’t forget to present extremely charming, tiny crib made by Rozalia Malik in 1987. As usual, guests were the most delighted and amazed with models which won the first prizes in the category of the biggest cribs. There was the biggest crib – 2.5 meter high by Zygmunt Grabarski from 1962, 1.95 meters high crib by Jan Malik from 1976 and made in 90’s crib by Joanna and Piotr Stremecki. Many of Italian guests, after seeing the exhibition, said that the show of amply decorated buildings from colourful tinfoil, polymer clay, cardboard, wood or colourful paper reveal not only the Polish Christmas atmosphere but also extraordinary genius loci of Kraków. The exhibition was arranged by “Proloco” association in cooperation with Historical Museum of the City of Kraków. It will be opened until 6th January 2006. Custodian: Michał Grabowski |
