Wystawa fotografii Bogusława Dąbrowy-Kostki w Zwierzynieckim Salonie Artystycznym

Exhibition in the Zwierzyniec Artistic Salon of photos by Bogusław Dąbrowa-Kostka
On December 1 (Tuesday), at 12:00 we would like to invite you to the Zwierzyniec Artistic Salon for the opening of the photo exhibition – Thank you General! Kraków’s Streets in 80’s of the 20th century on pictures taken by Bogusław Dąbrowa-Kostka.

Additionally on December 13th, on the anniversary of the Martial Law introduction, we would like to invite you for the documentary movie show presenting events from the 80’s and people from Kraków’s opposition. We start at 14:30.

A new generation is growing up in free of the Communism Poland. For children and youth born after year 1989, street clashes with communist authorities represented by people of General Wojciech Jaruzelski are the subject so far, so even strange. That is why we decided to prepare the exhibition presenting Kraków’s street during the clashes with militia and ZOMO: from the Wawel Castle, through former Manifestu Lipcowego Street (Piłsudskiego Street nowadays), Grodzka Street, Main Square, to the street and estates of the Nowa Huta quarter. A collection of 72 pictures by Bogusław Dąbrowa-Kostka presents anonymous Kraków citizens, who despite the consequences like arrest, prison, loss of job, being blackmailed to cooperate with the police of the PRL, they used to protest against economic and political situation.  In spite of introducing Martial Law, demonstrations and clashes with Police didn’t stop. In the Cathedral in the Wawel Castle and other Kraków churches votive masses  for the Motherland and internees were said, and the Lord’s Ark was a fortress for the members of the opposition. On the photos we can see battle tools of ordinary people with squads of police service and army: stones from track-ways, catapults, parts of flag-stones, waste baskets. Barricades were made from estates’ and parks’ benches, fences of track-ways and educational posts, street flowerbeds and other things. Moreover the photos show teams of various foreign news media, who hided on the roofs of block of flats and houses used to fix the reality of those times.  Many of the photos Bogusław Dąbrowa-Kostka took from the cover. These have a bit worse quality than other, however this fact doesn’t stop us from including them to great evidence of the history. Nevertheless these photos refer to the events, which are not only imprinted in the memories of 45-55 years old people, but also those younger, who still remember these events, even if they didn’t take active part in it.

Additionally to the photos of Kraków’s streets during the fights the exhibition includes illegal propaganda publications, leaflets and equipment of the militiamen. During the exhibition, in rooms of the Zwierzyniec Artistic Salon you can see a documentary movie by the author of the photos, with figures from the pictures found years later.
