| Schedule of celebrations related to the exhibition "Helena Modjeska. From the Love of Art" | |||
Year 2009 brings 100th anniversary of Helena Modrzejewska death (1840–1909). Because of that fact our museum decided to prepare an exhibition Helena Modrzejewska (1840-1909) – for the love of art. The exhibition will be opened until September 20th in the Krzysztofory Palace. By this exhibition we would like to introduce the amazing artist who won a fame and recognition of critics on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. Unquestionably she was a “star of two continents” – Europe and America. Authors of the exhibition would like to invite all of us to see places where Modrzejewska used to grow up, in an artistic way present following steps of her artistic career, introduce to us the greatest roles of her. Moreover we have a chance to see Modrzejewska as a great patriot, a feminist fighting for women rights and even as a powerful business women. However the goal of the exhibition is to in an unusual way present fugitive art of theatre and to show beauty and harmony of roles performed by the artist. In September we will extend the exhibition with a number of ceremonies which will help us to get know the actress even better. This is our proposal: September 6 at 11:00 We would like to invite all children for the theatrical Sunday in the Krzysztofory Palace. Together with magical Krzysztoforek and a museum guide, children will make a trip through the exhibition. In the next step an actress impersonating Helena Modrzejewska will tell a story written by Helena especially for her grandchildren. It will be a story about amazing people. It is titled „Titi, Nunu i Klembolo, czyli przygody dwóch liliowych chłopczyków i psa o sześciu nogach”. („Titi, Nunu i Klembolo, adventures of two line boys and a dog with six legs”). The meeting ends with interactive scenic workshop titled “You can be an actor too” managed by artist from the Open Theatre. Moreover we have prepared some sweets for everyone. September 9, at 12:00 In the Krzysztofory Palace, in the Fontana’s room professor Dariusz Kosiński from the Jagiellonian University will lecture on 19th century’s theatre („Helena Modrzejewska and the 19th century theatre”). The author of the lecture in an interesting way will present acting of Helena Modrzejewska, describe characteristic of her talent which made her the greatest drama actress of those times. Character of Helena Modrzejewska will be a guide through the 19th century theatre, theatre absolutely different from this we know. A lecture will accompanied by a multimedia presentation. September 14, at 17:00 On this day a discussion panel titled “From Julia to Lady Macbeth - Polish actresses’ struggles with Shakespeare” will be arranged in the Krzysztofory Palace, in the Fontana’s room. They will talk about their work on preparing Shakespeare’s productions, difficulties related to studies on Shakespeare’s works. Of course we won’t forget about comments of Helena Modrzejewska.
