Kraków Nativity Scenes in Gustavianum in Uppsala
  
On the 28th of November 2008 in the Museum Gustavianum in Uppsala, took place a ceremonial opening of exhibition of Kraków Nativity Scenes from the collection of Historical Museum of the City of Kraków. Representatives of local authorities and institution of science and culture like: head of the city council of Uppsala - Anders Björck , chancellor of the University in Uppsala - Anders Hallberg, director of the Museum Gustavianum - Ing-Marie Munktell, Polish ambassador in  Stockholm - Michał Czyż  and numerous representatives of Polish people in Sweden including Aleksander Głowacki – the initiator and originator of the exhibition, added splendour to the opening of the exhibition by their presence. The Historical Museum of the City of Kraków was represented by vice director - Jacek Salwiński, Marta Śmietana and Łukasz Olszewski.
The event was graced by a concert of artists from the “Piwnica Pod Baranami” (The Basement under the Rams - one of the most famous Polish cabarets) like: Beata Robotycka and Leszek Wójcicki, Konrad Mastyło playing piano, and Halina Jarczyk playing violin.
Kraków’s Christmas Cribs visit Uppsala – the 4th in respect of size city in Sweden, a city where the oldest Scandinavian university has a residence – for the 2nd time. (last time cribs were presented in 2003/2004 season). This time Swedish public can see 32 works including cribs made by famous cribs makers like: Tadeusz Żmirek, Zygmunt Grabarski, Tadeusz Gillert and Jan Kirsz
The Museum Gustavianum is located in old headquarter of the university, near to the huge cathedra, where amongst others, Catherine Jagellon of Poland, daughter of  Sigismund I the Old and Bona Sforza, was buried.
The collections of the museum are very diverse – it includes art of ancient Egypt, archaeological finds from the Middle Ages, and also rich collections related to the history of the local university, where famous characters like Anders Celsius and Carl Linnaeus used to study.

The exhibition will be opened until 18th of January 2009
